That blows, even worse when its your car.

Well I spoke to my installer and he claims he will make the time to do it today one way or another. He will also call ahead on my cellphone to wake me up in case I'm sleeping (just got home from work).

We'll see... I got my fingers crossed. Watch it suck once its installed.

Well he just left and $300 later (install and first month) I can say I'm NOT a happy camper.

The ping is modem like which is liveable. The BIG bitch is they installed some special cable though my wall and it goes into some sort of special Wireless PCI bridge to get the internet connection. this uses special software and settings. THEY WILL NOT GIVE ME THE DRIVER OR THE SOFTWARE OR THE SETTINGS. I explained I format my machine every 3 to 6 months as was told "YOu'll have to call us up"

    WTF!?

Based on the firmware version of the card (check with Ciscos little utility) I think I located and downloaded the correct drivers. And I can export their profile from the util, but I dont think that includes everything needed to reset it up.

Hell I"m scared to run the seutp on the driver package I found. It might fudge up the connection. I'll have to switch it to a different machine and try there so I can switch back if it doesn't work. Thats just not gonna happen today.

Sat. is unusable. I've played with it before. I could never play World of Warcraft again with it. Plus they like to limit your bandwith if you use to much.

And what if you buy a new PC or set up a network?

After calling to speak specificly with their tech department they told me where to get the drivers (I had already actually found them on the web) but they won't give me the settings unless I call them.

So in a few days I'll explain how I had to format and was waiting on the broadband so I could run updates. Then I'll write the settings down. fug 'em

the other bad news is the ping has a huge range depending on how good the signal is... I think I shoujldn't have let them use the small antenna. It was good playing wow for a few hours then I walked away and when I came back the signal wasn't quite as strong and the game was unplayable.

Well I'm still hacked about a couple of things, and I'm thiking of downgrading to the 256k connection since I rarely get over that speed anyway (will save me $25 a month) but I've got it shared out to the other computers via ICS and hopefully they don't notice it and cancel me.

    BUMP!

So flaystus - how's the broadband these days????

Was on cnet looking for wireless pc card help and bumped into this:

    http://reviews.cnet.com/Hawking_HWU54D_high_gain_USB_wireless_G_adapter/4505-3380_7-30...tml?tag=promo2

Would that kind of high gain receiver boost your ping to the transmitter?????

antenna will not help its not stanard 802.11 type equipment. Its based on 802.11 but the antenna and cabling is way different.

It still sucks btw. Basicly they don't have enough bandwidth to support their cusomers. Late at night about 2am I can get online and get all my speed and awesome ping times, by about 6:30am it sucks again.

The other day I was trying to download adaware at about 3pm and was getting 3k/sec.

Nice huh? They claim they are upgrading their connection soon, I call next week to get an ETA on soon. If its not very soon or they give no ETA I disconnect it and tell them to call me when the problem is fixed.

You should not even have Internet connection sharing installed.

Even Win 98 will talk to another computer without it if you have a router.

The router sees the machines and assigns them internal IP addresses.

And it sends to the address, rather than a broadcast, "Do you want this?"

    Cheers,

    George

BTW, if you are looking for a wireless card, check the stores this week, think I saw USB adapters at 19.95 after rebate, like 20 bucks.

Have 2, have 2 PCI cards for my Belkin Wireless router. Work great, generally 80 + % of max speed, upstairs to downstairs. No wires, although I will bye m bye run wire.

Not sure if this is directed at me. If so its a special connection not standard networking. I can't just go buy a router or I would in a heart beat like I've setup for several people in the past.
