I know this has been beaten to death. But I am still unclear on a couple of things. Project wizard in TMPEnc determines the field order of the avis that I have capture with Picvideo and a Leadtek 2000XP to be "top field first (field A)". My encodes to mpeg with TMPEnc then work fine when I view them on TV. The default setting in CCE is "upper field first". Is this the same as "top field first" in TMPEnc?
In Ulead, the default is "frame-based", but to get the correct output I have to select "field order B". So is there any way to tell what I should select before I start to encode? I tried g-spot with an avi, but I did not see any palce where field order was indicated. Besides this doesn't necessarily determine what settings to use for different programs since they appear to use different terminology.
Finally, what determines the field order in a capture, the card, the codec or the program?
    Thanks

"The default setting in CCE is "upper field first". Is this the same as "top field first" in TMPEnc? "

no - cce is always TFF for the output , you just select what your source is ..

"what determines the field order in a capture, the card, the codec or the program"

if it is hardware capture - the card , unless you change it (not always even possable)

BJ_M, Thanks, but I am not quite sure if you mean I should deselect "upper field first" in cce?

When I unchecked the "upper field first", the video looked fine on the TV. Just wish I could figure out a way to determine what to do without wasting a disk. I don't have any decent RWs.
