I put my video on with iTunes, however I put my music on with a program called SharePod.
The best part is Sharepod can be put onto your iPod drive so the program is wherever you are.

iTunes isn't that bad, just a little bloated. No more so then something like musicmatch jb. -
Lots. A good source (where I've gotten alot of my info) is ipodlounge.com

ok, i tried using sharepod and followed every instruction that it had and it says it copys the music over but really doesnt. I didnt turn the auto update off to itunes cause it says it would automatically erase it and it still didnt help. Also if itunes is so good why when you go to another computer to put songs off of that one on there it always wants to erase the " play list" or songs that you already have on there to put something new on there. Also is there anything like sharepod excepts it works with mp3 and videos, or just plan work????????

I can confirm sharepod works fine with a 5G iPod video as well as a 4gig iPod Nano. Beyond that I have no experiance with it.
If you have auto update on and you turn it off it should NOT delete your music, it didn't for me.
iTunes is designed to work from one single home computer, thats why you can't sync it from someone elses machine. iPod is not designed to let you do that so that you don't still other peoples ripped music. If your a case like me and have 3 different machines at different locations then your best bet is to turn off auto sync and manually drag tracks over, then use sharepod on the other machines.
For video I just drag the videos over in iTunes once I've converted them to the proper format.
