I just noticed an 83' FORD Granada with the right rear quarter panel severly crumpled and acid rain rust spots all over it. Let alone the sun faded yellow-grey color. Somehow, it was turned into a low rider, with aftermarket chrome rims and spinners. The axles were widened. It even had the chrome tail pipe tip off to the side. The interrior had a Crown air freshener, a few gold necklaces haning from the rear view. And the lights had colored strobe flashers. They put the clear plastic fixtures for the brake & turn lights. They even added a tacky spoiler to the trunk. WTF!!!!
The next is an old Fodn 4N tractor. Someone put cutter hub caps on the front wheels and spray painted the rear rims rounds with gold spraypaint. They also painted the grill gold. And yes, they put a chrome tail on the end of the exhaust.

If you're talking about spinning wheel covers, they've
been around here for a while. The people live in the wealthy
areas and drive past my house (in the not so wealthy area!).
They are mostly on expensive SUVs.Perpetually Confused -

I still don't get spinner wheels. For what they cost, I'd rather just get a nicer car....

Looks like Doramius has opened up a trip down memory lane!
I used to paint in the '70s, mostly my cars, but also for others.
I miss the smell of Bondo, lacquer thinner and having acetylene
carbon strings floating around the garage. Duh!!!
I was using acrylic lacquer, wet sanded and then rubbed it out.
Back then I paid less than $20 a gallon for the lacquer. Somebody
told me that it costs over $100 today. I saw, I think in the Eastwood
catalog, that the trick paints are in the thousands of $$$ a gallon.
EDIT..........Just found it.....$2,107.00 a gallon!!!
Not sure why the cost has risen so much.Perpetually Confused -
It depends on the paint. Also, hardened enamel with an epoxy mix or coat is often used today. Lacquer tends to sunfade if not kept up properly. My dad hit a deer with a red van once. They replaced the hood, with one that was yellow. It was sand blasted and the matching paint applied. The color matched perfectly. after about 3 years, the lacquer became dull in color and was several shades different from the original paint. The enamel tend to match the original baked paint better and longer. However, you can get removable panels baked, for a pretty penney though. I'd just like to see cars being unibody, but have removable skin panels. Usually see some cars with fenders and/or rear quater panels like that, but not many.
As for the low riding truck. I doubt anyone would be able to tow it without a flatbed.
