  1. I am trying to convert a movie from Xvid to Divx so I can play it on a stand alone dvd player. I have been using Virtualdub to do the task by only choosing the Video Compression to change it to Divx 5.1.2. After converting I can sse that there is problem with the audio. It is playing slower and with some ripping between frames. The audio doesn't fit the pictures. Audio was set on Direct Stream Copy. How can I solve this problem?

    For XviD to DivX all you need to do is change the fourCC from XVID to DX50/DIVX.

    Why wouldn't it?

    Guess you could mean due to MPEG4 features that aren't supported, but then a DivX encode with GMC and qpel enabled won't work on all standalones either.

    An XviD encode encoded with DXN Home Theatre profile and the fourCC changed should play every bit as well as an actual DXN HT encode.

    Thanks for the reply, I am still a bit confused of how to change the 4CC. Can you explain how to do this, is it possible to do this change with virtualdub?

  7. I don't know hos to change the 4CC in the tools. Under tools there are 3 options: 1) Hex editior 2) Create sparse AVI 3) Expand sparse AVI.
    For the first one it opens an editor to write a kind of code. For the 2 and 3 it asks to open an avi file and a sparse file.
    Can you expalin more about what I should do then, thanks alot.

  9. I have now used it by opening the file and it self chose the target source to divx, from its original DX50. After burning it on a cd and playing on a dvd stand alone player there is still problem with the audio. The audio comes later than the pictures and there are some disruption when playing the file.
    Is there something which I have missed out to do?

    DX50 is the fourCC for DivX5.x. I thought that the file was XviD?

    Some stats on the source file might help.

    Yes the file was in Xvid, I wanted to change it to Divx to play it on a stand alone dvd player.

    Audio stream:
    Sampling rate= 44100 hz
    channels = 2 (stereo)
    Sample precision = N/A
    Compression = Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer 3 codec
    Layout = Chunks (0.50 preload)
    Length = 90447066
    Min/avg/max/total frame size = 591/619/7397 (150k)
    Date rate = 118 kbps(3.73% overhead)

  12. maybe audio desync due to VBR MP3 audio? if video's coming in fine then i doubt its a fourcc problem.

    try to reencode the audio to a CBR 128 KBPS MP3 (using something like goldwave), remux it w/ the video (using VDub Video: Direct Sream Copy, Audio: Direct Stream Copy and tell it the location of the CBR MP3 that u make)

    i hope it works!
