    Hello,

I've got DSL and I'm trying to find a way to get my signal from my pc to the xbox down stairs. I have the PCI NETGEAR Wireless adapter - WG311 v2. (not installed yet - I'm getting the xbox wireless adapter after the holidays ).

I was told that I would need a wireless router to get this to work properly. But I was also told that SBC DSL needs it's own propreity router to work properly. Then I asked if the pci adapter can transmit the signal to the xbox itself. I was told it might if it would be done with an AD HOC connection. But the person said that the game adapter may not like it.

Has anyone done an ad hoc connection with a wireless game adapter?????

    Thanks

    Kevin

I don't have a wireless game adapter myself, but I have to wonder if they're configurable for Ad Hoc. If you DID get it to work, you'd also have to enable ICS to be able to play online. BTW, DSL doesn't need it's own proprietary wireless router (or AP) to work. They're probably just trying to sell you something. I have SBC DSL and I use the Linksys WRT54G. There are lots of deals on wireless routers going around these days. Pretty much any of them should be compatible with your system.

    Hello,

Really huh???? It's weird because the one guy at BestBuy was saying the sbc dsl was picky on wireless routers and would only really work on the sbc brand.....

I don't really want to buy another unit but I saw some for only $30 after rebates and they were G

    Decisions, decisions.....

    Thanks viral1

I'd recommend 802.11g, but the adapter should be backwards compatible with 802.11b if you find an awesome deal on it.
