I have an Xvid...taken from a HR HDTV source
it has a size of 960x528 (taken from Gspot)

To resize it for DVD (eg 720 x 480)...

Do I still use the same process in the Avisynth script ??
    (for use with CCE)
    see below example..

    LanczosResize(688,352)
    AddBorders(16,64,16,64)

    or is different??

I am okay with resizing Xvids that are smaller than DVD sizes
but this is larger ...maybe I am seeing complications that arent there

    Any assistance is appreciated

No don't add the black borders - the source is roughly 16:9 aspect ratio so what you want to do is resize the whole thing to 720x480 without the black borders, and when you encode it with CCE, make sure that the 16:9 Aspect Ratio option is selected.

It will be now be endcoded as a wide-screen DVD and will play-back that way without the need for the black borders, the picture quality should be slightly better this way too since all the video information is in the video, not wasted on black bars.

Yeah I know it would be criminal to add borders.... and also not to use
all it lovely 16:9 High resolution....BUT

This is part of a three episode DVD ....which is 4:3 widescreen in origin
so I need to keep the output from this one the same...with black borders
    on top and bottom...

So in CCE I select 4:3 when I encode...for this series anyway.

So if I use the script mentioned previously that shoould work.. right???

for 4:3 output (even though the episodes are Widescreen).

    OK - Understood.

Yes, your resizing should work - you have even included the adjustment for going from 3:2 ratio (720 x 480) to 4:3 (TV).

And I take it you are aware these settings are for NTSC not PAL.
