I'm a newbie to this forum so please excuse my ignorance. I recently purchased a brand name 23" LCD TV and a HD dvd player both with DVI connections. I found out the DVI connection on the LCD TV is not HDCP when I tried to play protected DVD's. I have since corrected this problem with a "hack" (?) provided by the DVD player manufacturer. I was wondering if this is a macrovision hack? Also would I have the same problem connecting a HD satelitte or cable box through DVI? Shouldn't the LCD TV manufacturer inform it's potential customers that the DVI connection on their LCDs are not HDCP compatible?

Who makes this LCD TV? Have you called them?

Without HDCP you will have problems using that DVI connector with HDTV devices. Be prepared to use the analog component Y, Pb, Pr instead.

For a 23" set you probably won't see much difference using the analog connections.

Thanks for your reply. The tv manufacturer is Dell. I called support twice. The first time I encountered the problem support told me I had to connect the DVD player through a HD tuner. The 2nd time I called support was after I had received the hack(?) and had corrected the problem. I wanted to see if Dell would admit their DVI ports were not HDCP. They finally admitted it but came short when promising to add this fact to their operation manuals.
