  1. Could use some help:

I have about 10 8mm analog tapes (not Hi8) that I want to capture to MPEG on my PC to edit and then produce DVDs (I do have S video and audio inputs), but the camcorder is completely broken.

So the question is what method would you suggest to capture?
    - purchase an old 8mm analog camcorder to replace the broken one
    - purchase a digital camcorder that I can capture via USB (A/D conversion performed by the camcorder)
    - since the PC is a Vaio and has "I link" (whatever that is) obtain some equipment that can capture that way.

    Like I said....help!

Thanks in advance....by the way what ever I purchase I will not be using the camcorder again, so expense is a factor.

Another option would be to borrow a camcorder or check the local photo stores to see if one of them rents camcorders that you could use. A little more expensive would be to pay for a transfer service to DVD.
