  1. I was trying to capture(transfer) movie file from Digital Camcorder to PC using firewire cable (IEEE 1394). I don't know how to transfer movie from DV to PC. So I used to windows movie maker to capture the movie from DV to PC. But windows movie maker giving me error message that "no video source/device found". I also tried with Sonic MyDVD software to capture the movie. But got the same message that it is not identifying video source/device. I am using 'Sony DV' (model IP1).

    Am I doing anything wrong?

Is your camcorder turned on - it needs to be in the playback mode?

Give WinDV a try as well.
And search the Microsoft support pages for an update. There have been several for different camera manufacturers...but can't remember if Sony was one of them.
You are NOT alone with a Sony cam not being recognized by your PC. I've seen it mentioned here several times.

    Hi pvarakantam,

    There's also:

    DVIO
    AVI_IO
    Scenalyzer Live

Does you cam show up in the Device Manager?
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

  6. Hi pvarakantam,

I recognised your name from another post. As your camcorder is a microMV device you will still need to use MovieShaker to capture the video.

I have never had any problems using this software for capturing from my microMV camcorder (no auddio loss - the problem you were having with the USB link earlier).

  7. Thank you very much for your reply. I used MovieShaker and now I was able to capture movie from MicroMV to PC. It created files with extension '.MMV'. Now I would like burn this movie on to DVD. What should I do now? I am not sure if we can use MovieShaker to burn DVD.

  8. Hi pvarakantam,

I'm glad you managed to capture the video with the audio.

You can't use MovieShaker to create a DVD, unfortunately. You will need to use a separate DVD authoring program (check the "HOW TO : AUTHOR" category in the left-hand column of this website).

However, you can export your video files from MovieShaker in the correct format for DVD. If you drag your video clips down to the "Story Board" area at the bottom of the window, then press the "Export" button on the right-hand side, you have the option of which format to export as. You need to export as MPEG2. It gives you two options for quality setting.

  9. pvarakantam,

I have just realised that you have Sonic MyDVD. You can use this for your DVD authoring. It will accept the MPEG2 files you export from MovieShaker.
