Hi! I've encoded a DVD to DivX 5 video multiplexed with OGG Audio (so it's an OGM format multimedia file). Problem is, I'm trying to play it on a slower computer than what I originally played it on. The quality is just way to high for my slower computer to handle. It's specs are:
- 750MHz AMD Duron
- 320MB RAM
- nVidia Geforce 2 MX 64MB DDR
It's easily able to handle other stuff I've encoded that's at a lower bitrate. Codecs I currently have installed are:
- XviD https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=190#comments
- Ogg DS
- DivX 3/4/5
- AC3 Filter
I use Windows Media Player to play all of my videos. My rip will play, but it's just a bit too powerful (it plays just a little jerky, but audio gets out of sync and pops when it reaches a key frame). I've tried Media Player Classic & Winamp as well with no luck. What I'm thinking is that like with the DivX Player (the one loaded with spyware :\) you were able to change the quality from high to low. I no longer have that installed but in this case it wouldn't matter. Thanks!

The DivX codec installation (even the free version), also installs a codec configuration utility (found at Start-->Programs -->DivX-->...)
Try unchecking some of the quality options and also disable the first page options (like Film Effect, etc). Each option requires processing so removing some will make decoding somewhat faster. The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
