    TGIF all :P

    AVI_IO captures via Firewire - wahoo !!

I didn't know that this was ever possible. I thought that the
developer was not going to do anything for DV and Firewire, but
I guess I was wrong. Anyways.

I was greated by an friendly open capture window inside avi_io
when I thought I'd give it a try (thinking it would not be at
all possible) and boy, was I surprise, and excited too !!

    I can't believe I can now capture beyond WIN 98 4gig limit. I
did a test capture of 25 minutes (past the 18 mins for FAT32)
w/ flying colors (well, ok then.., with 4:1:1 colors hehe)
    Anyways.., it was great.

My captures (transfers) are 48k audio too. Great.

Are others out there using avi_io to transfer the DV video via
    firewire like I am ??

More to say, but this is enough for now

Unfortunately, winDV; DVIO; and DVapp refuses to recignize my ADVC-100 and/or TRV22 ..

    ---------------------------------------------
Error: Can't find DV output pin
    ---------------------------------------------

I haven't the slightest idea why this error message, but

    RsDvCap.exe; wmcap.exe; avi_io; and virtualdub all work prefectly !!
    Anyays.

Anyways, after further investigation and researching, I found that these
app (avi_io and vdub) actually do not support capturing DV through
    Firewire!!
    .
I lost all support for this on last Fridays crash, and spent the whole
weekend re-hacking around, to get avi_io and vdub to work again to no avail.
Thats how I find out for sure, that these two apps don't suppor DV through
    firewire.
It wasn't till I finally hint on the re-hacking of anything and everything,
till finally, bingo, avi_io / vdub were once again able to capture DV through
firewire ..I was a very happy baby all over again.

The reason I posted this success story (for avi_io and then vdub) was because
I found that many users here were asking this question over and over,
.. "does avi_io / vdub capture DV through firewire ?? " (well, in so many words)
and the answer is no. (But, through hacking around some driver file(s) it
*IS* possible to capture DV through firewire)
    .
The bonus comes in the form of segmenation captures for us WIN 98
users, who dream of this for Firewire. For me, I seem to be the only one
who has reached this goal (unaficially that is) .. though now, official.
So, it looks like no-one is able to use avi_io

Anyways, I'm happy. Now I can capture my LaserDisc movies w/ my DV
devices straight through, w/out having to resort to cuts and things.
