  1. this is odd.. out of the blue i have started to get mencoder exiting with segfaults and bus errors when trying to encode a dvd-sourced .m2v file ripped with 0Sex. i have successfully encoded these specific files recently, though didn't get the result i wanted and now when i go back and try again it isn't working. here's the output:

    /Applications/ffmpegX.app//Contents/Resources/pbpaste | sh

i'm putting an AC-3 audio track in with the "add audio..." option in the audio tab, then using passthrough for the codec. if i hit "encode" to do the whole movie, i get the bus error described above. if i try with the 5-second test clip option selected, it segfaults in the same fashion.

i've tried re-installing ffmpegx and the binaries but that hasn't seemed to solve my problem. major?

  2. Try muxing video/audio before encoding to avi, or extract as VOB.

  3. okay, muxing the mpeg-2 and ac-3 files as dvd worked (muxing as mpeg-2 failed with buffer underrun almost immediately). it gave me a .mpg file, which VLC played perfectly, including the audio. opening it in ffmpegx reported:

    VIDEO: mpeg-2, size: 720x480, 23.976 fps w/3:2, 9800 kbps. AUDIO: ac3, 48000Hz, 448 kbps.

...which is exactly right. however, mencoder couldn't find an audio track when it began to encode so it just encoded video. this is with the passthrough audio codec selected.
