    Nero info sees my CD burner ok, see here

    But will not pick up the CD. It just shows tray as empty. Has the laser stuffed up? This is my spare PC and I'm running XP See here

    In order of desirability:

    1) Dirty laser lens
    2) Crappy media (cheap, scratched, badly smudged)
    3) Hosed writer

    The media is ok, I have tried severall CD's.
    If the laser is dirty, what are the steps involved regarding cleaning it? I take it the dishwasher is out. Can a novice do it?

    As a matter of fact there is a product that you can purchase at BB or Circuit City and its called DiscWasher dvd lens cleaning system , they cost about 20 bucks and I have been using it for years.
