  1. All of a sudden Nero will not recognize any of my drives and only give me the option for Image. I tried un-installing the program and re-installing it but that didn't help. I installed Nero 6 and initially found my CD burner but not my DVD burner but then it wouldn't find either one. I un-installed Nero 6 and re-installed Nero 8 but still only the Image option is coming up.

Looking for a way to make the program find both of my drives.
    Thanks for your help,
    Bob

I suspect that you will need to set the jumpers on one of your burners.

No answers for you, but a lot of questions: Does your computer recognize that the drives exist? If not, then your problem isn't with Nero, so installing/reinstalling it won't help. You need to do first steps first.

Does Explorer see both drives? Does the Device Manager see them as enabled? Etc.
Did both drives suddenly become invisible at the same time?
Did you recently change any hardware?

After a little directed sleuthing, you'll have a better idea of where the problem really lies, and that often will suggest a solution.

  5. Both drives are listed under My Computer.
Both drives are listed under DVD Shrink.
Both drives are listed under Imgburn.
I can access both drives from My Computer to play a DVD or explore a data disc.

I did have some type of virus that wouldn't allow me to access certain options in Control Panel and would redirect most of my Google searches but I think I fixed that with Superantispyware and Malware Bytes Anitmalware. Now I can access everything on my Control Panel but I still only get Image Recorder in both Nero Smart Start Essentials and Nero Express Essentials. This is the software that came with my DVD burner that I installed in my computer over 1 1/2 years ago and has worked perfectly up until 2 days ago.

    Thanks,
    Bob

That virus may have left some uncorrected damage. The tools you mentioned only deactivate the malware to prevent further activity. They do not necessarily reverse all the damage done. In addition to the scan that was already suggested, I recommend doing another uninstall/reinstall of Nero, but this time, use a third-party uninstall utility (such as Revo; there are many others out there). Often, uninstallers leave bits behind, so that a reinstall isn't quite the same as starting from scratch. If those left-behind bits have been corrupted, the reinstall may not work properly. So, nuke the bits, then do a clean reinstall of the app and see what happens.

  8. do a search for upper and/or lower filters on your CD/DVD devices in the registry. Might cause this type of problem.

I have tried just about everything posted on the internet. Well at least I feel that way. But Nero 7 does not recognize my dvd burners either. I have two LG GH22. Only the image writer appears as a recorder. I have used the Nero Cleaning tool and re-installed the program. I went out and bought two new LG GH22 dvd writers too. I have done a virus scan on my computer if a virus was the problem. I have just tried cleaning my computer of Nero 7 with the Revo Uninstaller program too. I have spent maybe seven hours tryng to get this to work....so I am desperate for help. Can someone tell me how to do a search for upper and/lower filters on cd/dvd devices in the registry? Please explain in detail how to do this. I don't like to tamper with the registry but I am getting out of options here.
I can use IMGburn with my dvd writers. And the dvd writers do show up in My Computer. I have updated drivers and firmware. And I took a shower this morning too. I am installing Nero 7 Ultra in my Windows 7 XP Mode.

not a search of the registry, but an online search.

I cannot speak for newer versions of Nero, but in the past, the software would only recognize certain types of burners. Burners that were newer than the version of Nero would not be recognized.

Honestly, Nero has been the cause of so many burning headaches in the past few years that countless people in this forum have sworn off it. Mine is just one of many voices saying switch to ImgBurn. Once you use it a few times, you'll NEVER go back to Nero. ImgBurn is free, yet worth much, much more than whatever you paid for Nero.
