I keep gettting this error message, "Windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close etc..." when I go to a folder on my cpu that contains avi's. The cpu will show the error message, I can continue to view avi while message is on screen, but when ever I press someting to get rid of the message like "debug" etc., Windows crashes and then boots backup without the avi playing and with most of my icons in my tasktray gone. HELP! ANYONE? HELP! PLEASE!
I have tried:
Uninstalling all divx, xvid codecs
Rolling back WMP
Performing a scandisk at startup
editing my registry to get rid of the shmedia.dll file or whatever
I am all out of ideas on how to fix this. Any gurus out there have any ideas for me to try?
Oh one last thing, I have searched alot on this site for the answer already and the above is what i found and tried![]()

Large AVI files have this problem when Windows tried to scan their properties. This is especially true when odd AVI codecs are present. It isn't the shmedia.dll hack though. I can't recall which key it is.

I never encountered this problem until just recently though. And I have had large files on mycpu for awhile now.
