The file i am burning is an NRG file.

    Wasted my 3 bucks man.

SO used dvd decryptor to burn my dvd and since it's a large file and my burner burns dl dvd at max speed of 4x it would take 25 mins. So i went away to watch tv.

When i came back i found this was the error msg

    W 04:13:57 Failed to Write Sectors 1881824 - 1881855 - Spindle Servo Failure

    Spindle servo failure.

I guess it reached 1 sector and just couldn't write anymore??

Anyhow i also have a pic to of the log to show what happened.

Additonal Question. Would i encounter the same kind of error if i burned the same file with a new DL dvd disc?

Well I would try using ImgBurn, not Decrypter. Seems odd to have an NRG (Nero image) that is identified as an ImgBurn source in the log.

Is this an HP drive? If so you could try a firmware update.

    Or here.

The Ritek DL discs can be problematic, especially with older burners.

But 'Spindle Server failure' sounds a bit ominous.

That's a hardware failure. Probably the same as a 'Focus servo failure' from the Nero error logs. Most common cause is the DVD media. Try Verbatim DL + discs. They are the only reliable DL discs at present. Ritek varies in performance, depending somewhat on the burner used. Verbatim is much more consistent.

Other causes are poor power supply to the burner. This mostly happens with external burner or a weak power supply in a tower PC.
Or it can be caused by dust or dirt on the laser lens. But these problems would show on most any burn, not especially DL.

I would just try changing your media.

    HI thanks for the links.

Yes how did u know it was from HP? It's not called HP though it's called LG. The brand of the drive.

How do i know what firmware version my drive is running on? I used decryptor and it doesn't show. The date of the firmware shows 9th of feb 2007 and i bought my pc much later than that so i think the firmware for this drive should be the latest.

Anyway i have burned this same brand of dvd before and this is the very first time i am encountering this problem.

    Thanks for telling.

I used this media because it is the cheapest DL DVD media i can find. Other brands i have found cost like even 6 bucks for 1 dvd. That was only 3 bucks and it has a max burn speed of 8x which is useless for my drive as it can only burn 4x max for DL DVD.

The brand on the DVD is not called ritek however, it is called Imation.

I am using an internal DVD burner. POwer supply should be more than sufficient as i do not have excessive number of burners and only have 3 HDDS. Using a thermal take tough power 750W PSU which should at least be sufficient for my rig set up which contains a c2d E8400 Overclocked to 3.8GHZ and 1 4870 x2 and have 5 fans.

Thanks for informing me of the power supply issue though.

What brand is verbatim on the dvd cover?

Verbatim most times. They do produce media that different brands may print on the disc. Manufacturers like Ritek make media for several companies. According to your log, the media you are using is: SO4. If you look in our DVD Media page to the left on this page, you will see the brands that Ritek supplies under that code: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia?dvdmediasearch=&dvdmediadvdridsearch=s04&type=11&siz...+or+List+Media

Imation is one of them. The problem with Ritek is that they may vary by batch. That could be your problem.

If you have ImgBurn, you can also see the media manufacturer. ImgBurn will also tell you what your present firmware is. (Tools>Drive>Check for firmware updates.} They also had a link to updated firmware, or you can check here for your specific burner: http://forum.rpc1.org/, ss the ImgBurn link doesn't seem to work at present.
