  1. Okay I have a DVD+RW drive and now have DVD+RW media (at first I had DVD+R that didn't work). Anyways I am wanting to put my .avi files (some are in DivX) on DVDs to view on our front room DVD player. I will be using a program called Sonic MyDVD and at first I tried opening the AVI files to burn straight to the disk but a 700mb file ended up saying it would be about 8.3gb or something after the necessary conversion. So to start off I am supposed to convert the avi files to mpeg...but aren't sure about the Layer- one or two or three? Then I know from experience that I can just open the MPEG files in that program and burn from there...I had two mpeg once and did this easily. So basically the conversion is my problem...Can someone just give me an "okay" or correct me where I am wrong at in this process? I may need to do a lot more than this so feel free to help me out.

Is there a basic correlation between the size of the AVI and the size it will be on a DVD? I am asking because I am fearing that I won't be able to fit my 730mb avi movie onto a 4.7gb DVD. If I am asking too many questions then just call me a dummy...but I have looked through the articles and stuff on the left- I just was wanting guidance. Thanks for the help.

you need to convert your avi file to a dvd compliant Mpeg file first. there are several good programs you can use, I myself use TMPGEnc. a 730Mb avi file will fit fine on a dvd after the necessary conversion. look in the guides section on the left, theres a lot of good guides there to show you step by step how to convert the file and how to burn it onto a dvd. good luck

  4. Start reading everything you can find om this site.

    Specifically:

Under WHAT IS, see DVD. That will give you an idea of what is valid. From there that will narrow down what you have to do.

    Next start reading GUIDES.

First you will need to CONVERT your AVI audio/video files to DVD compliant audio and video.

After you get all the conversions done, you'll want to AUTHOR.

Once the authoring is done, BURN!

Once you have specific questions the GUIDES don't answer, come back and post them. Also, don't forget that the forum is searchable anad might have answers to some of the questions you might have.
