    Hello, folks

I am pretty new at this and I was wondering which options I should use:

I have two avi files, each of them are about 800 MB’s, and I want to convert them so I can burn them onto a DVD-5 disc. Should I convert them with ‘the FilmMachine’ and let the program itself shrink it so it will fit on a disc, or should I have no decompression and let DVD-rebuilder shrink it after the movie has been converted?

If it is an AVI file most likely it will be Mpeg4 format, if you expend it to DVD5 Mpeg2 it will be about 4+ Gb. That is one full DVD5. To put two on one disk it will need 50% compression. If that is what you want, FilmMachine is using good encoders so it will be OK to do it with that.
Get GSpot (free) and check your file format in there.

Always use as few steps as possible.
...and use a more descriptive topic title than "I need a little help" - We all do that.
Source file size is irrelevant when calculating the size of the DVD output. Length is what counts. I'd advise against > 3 hours on a DVD-5 - 2 hours is generally what can be expected with decent quality.

I use the FilmMachine with either CCE or HC, and with one avi file it produce a pretty good image, but I haven’t tried with two avi files, and therefore I ask if the FilmMachine, or any other programs, decompress two files with good quality.

"good quality" is highly subjective. Apps that use CCE or HCEnc produce about as good output as it's likely to get, without using the encoder yourself, and fine tune its settings (if you have the knowledge) beyond what front ends like The FilmMachine allows.
