Can this be done?
I have some old double sided dvd's that need to be flipped over half way through the film.
I would like to put this onto a dvd-r 4.5g hopefully with an invisible join so it play straight through.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks in advance.

well, you can try a few programmes like: DVD2oneX (a MAC programme) which can join two discs... but you need to burn them to your desktop first with MacTheRipper or DVDBackup (both MAC). You can find these on Versiontracker.com or other places. You can join two sets of VOBs and then burn the saved folder via TOAST.
cheers! -
Plays through fine for me... but remember you're really squishing the images down so expect some artifacts. 2 Hours fits fine on one DVD-R, but three or four hours --- watch out! Test it on a DVD-RW of you don't have any of those cheaper 45¢ DVD-r or +rs sitting around. If it screws up you can erase the disc and try a different setting.

Just to let you know.......tried it and it worked fine. Easier than I thought. lol
Film is only 1hr 50 so quality is pretty good. No extras or anything so worked well for this disc.
Thanks for you help. -
glad it worked well for you, the only thing i note with a job like this is that the chapter marks begin again after the 2nd part of the movie plays, such that if you have say 12 chapters on first one, and 10 on 2nd one, instead of having a chapter 13 it has a 2nd chapter 1. sometimes can cause problems when jumping chapters.
maybe they fixed this in the newer version because this was back when JOIN just got added
glad its working for ya -
The chapter marks only start again at 1 if you don't click 'seamless join'.
A 2 hour movie shouldn't really have any artifacts at all. Even 3 hours should show very very few artifacts, and then only in difficult scenes (very dark, very fast, fire/smoke, etc). -
indeed, ive put ones like pearl harbor from 2 dvd to 1 and it still looks wonderful
my dual layer drive comes in wednesday, imagine the join quality for that. Infact, most dvd's are like 6-7 gigs so hopefully a smaller 2nd disk would fit totally onto one dual layer disk
