  1. Newbie to DV, What software to use?
i have just bought myself a Sony DCR HC14E,
    i.LINK (DV Out)
    USB interface
i did not get any software with it,
so i was wondering which software would be the easiest to use
for a virgin DV camcorder user?
i would like to edit my films and then burn them to DVD

There's loads of apps, they all have free trials. Give Video Studio 8 a try. www.ulead.com It does everything, from capture to burn.

BTW use the i-link for transferring, it's also known as 1394 and firewire.

I would recommend scenalyzerlive, DVIO or WinDV.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. I have a Sony TRV260. I just tried transferring my video for the first time this weekend. I used the i.Link/Firewire transfer with WinDV and it worked great. I tried Scenalyzer which also worked but you have to pay for it now or you get an add at random points in your video. I have read good things about DVIO which I didn't try. DVIO doesn't have a video preview though, WinDV does so I chose that. I transferred 6 files of lengths up to 10 minutes with 0 dropped frames. I would recommend that you plug your camera into the AC adapter before you transfer.

WinDV has the advantage of DVIO in that it has memory buffering, which usually results in zero dropped frames.
