  1. I've tried following both of these guides:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd_rebuilder_tutorial.cfm
    http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdrb.htm

    I'm trying to encode a movie, but the result is bigger than the original.

    edit:
    When using CCE SP the dvd comes out to 9.16GB, when using CCE Basic it seems to be about the right size, but locks up about half way through encoding.

    What version of CCE SP are you using? There is a known issue of RB with the last version regarding output size.

    In the case of CCE Basic. In witch way does it locks? there is an error massage?
    Please check what is the average bitrate for the segment CCE is encoding when it freezes. I have problems when it is below 750 bps (it happens with the extras when you select "Steal space from extras"

    If it locks at half way than, it seems to me, that's the reason why you say it's "about the right size"!

    So, either way you're getting a big file. Reduce your bitrate and encode once again with SP.

    Or else, DVD Shrink it after encoding.

  4. I was using CCE SP v2.66.01.01. When I said that CCE Basic was about the right size when it locked up around half way I meant that it was about 2gig which is half of the size it should be. I haven't seen any options where I change the bitrate. I was using DVD Shrink, but I can't get the quality I need with it.

    I have used dvdrb numerous times and i have never had to set bit rates with cce basic.Unless you have changed settings in dvdrb there should be no issue with dvdrb.All settings are pre-determined with the software.

  7. When it's encoding in CCE SP it says "Pass 1/1" In the options I know it's set to 2 passes, so for some reason it's not doing the second pass.

  9. Yes, I'm having the same issue with .57. I'm using CCE 2.67.00.27. I just did a rebuild of my system. Didn't have this problem before with all the same software. I got past the 1/1 Pass thing by setting it to 3 pass. Now it does 2. But my problem is the size of the final disc. It says reducing to DVD-5 reduciton level 34%. Space for video is showing only about 2 gigs. This DVD only has a few menus and 1 long VOB. It's like the program doesn't know the size of a DVD-R. It is very confusing. Not sure what changed when I did my clean install.

    Nevermind I'm an idiot. Was an ID-10-T Error. I had an image of another disc in the same directory. Sorry for wasting your time.

    In RB/CCE the encoding passes are one less that the figure you enter, as the creation of the .vaf file is considered as one pass.

    I've been using RB since 0.46 and never have a problem with such amount of oversizing. So surelly you are doing something wrong.

    I would recomend do a clean install.
    Use ECLCCE not only for CCE Basic but for 2.66 also (you have to use two instances of ECLCCE, one for each version of CCE)
    Be sure of use the last version of AVISINTH

    If this do not resolve your problem, I would recomend post in the Rebuilder forum at www.doom9.org, where the creator of Rebuilder answer the questions.

    But if you want a correct answer, please provide as much information as possible:
    - Which is the DVD you are trying to back-up? Title, Region, PAL or NTSC
    - It happens only with that DVD? Have you tried your setup with other DVD? Did you have the same problem or with the other DVD the process was trouble-free?
    - Which is the structure of the DVD? You can use DVDShrink to look at the size and number ot titles and menus (put all in "NO COMPRESSION" so it will show the actual size, no the one after the compression)
    - RB is working from the original ripping or you have done some kind of "pre-processing" (eliminating extras, menus, or languages)
    - What are the settings of RB (the options you have checked in the Options and Mode menus, ie H1 and Half, or Steal Space from extras)
    - For CCE Basic, when it freezes, there is any kind of error message? what segment it is encoding? Size and VBR?

    This kind of information is needed in order to try to understand your problem, to see where is it the difference, as the vast majority of RB users are using it without trouble.

  11. I quit trying to use CCE Basic. I've uninstalled everything and reinstalled it. I tried selecting 5 pass in DVD-RB and it still only does 1 pass.

    I've tried 2 movies so far, Ghost Rider The Final Ride and Simpsons Season 1 Disc 2 both NTSC.
    I rip to the hard drive in file mode instead of an iso, not sure if that makes a difference.

    Mode options checked:
    CCE Mode
    Verbose Status Window
    One Click Mode
    Dynamically Assign Cell Bitrates

    AVS Options:
    ConvertToYUY2()
    AudioDub(BlankClip())

    Using:
    DVD-RB .57a

    If that is not a purchased version and a cracked Paradox version, I have seen the problem mentioned on another forum. Try a different version of CCE and see if the problem still persists.

    @RangerXXX

    As mentioned previously, the last version of CCE SP (2.67.00.27) does not work correctly with Rebuilder: it produces oversized files. RB developer will try to correct it for version 0.58. Try going to a previous CCE SP version.

    One question: In your August 28 post you mentioned using CCE SP 2.66.01.01. In Sep.07 you are using SP 2.67.00.27. You did experienced the same problem in both cases?

    Regarding CCE Basic: It is only capable of Double pass. I'm not sure if this means one pass for generating the .vaf files and the other for encoding or two passes for encoding. As this way of counting the passes is a CCE issue, not a DVD-RB issue, I would believe it is the first case, which coincides with your experience.

    If, as mentioned by jtommyj you are using a craked version of CCE, well, ... .

  14. I uninstalled CCE SP and reinstalled CCE Basic 2.69.01.04. After trying again it keeps locking up and giving me this error "DVD Rebuilder experienced a buffer overflow. Error #0004. Process must abort." about half way through the encoding. It seems to be doing 2 passes even though I had it set higher and the video is all pink and blocky.

  15. RangerXXX I had the exact same problem (pink/blocky). with CCE basic. Switch to another encoder, and use RB .58. RB .58 fixes the problem with CCE 2.67.00.27, too. Good luck.

  16. Thanks, the new version of DVD-RB worked. I have a couple more questions now that it's working:

    Is it not supposed to encode the menus? (can you?)

    Is it possible to remove a bonus feature or will it only do a full disc?

    You need to use a program like vobblanker or dvd remake. After you copy the full disk to your hard drive with dvd decrypter,you use an editing program like the ones above before you run dvdrb.
