I've searched the forums and read the threads on how to get VR mode to play on my Dell Dimensions 8200 computer but it's not happening.
I recorded a DVD -RW in VR mode on my stand alone Go-Video dual VHS/DVD recorder. I finalized the DVD. I can't get it to play on my computer DVD liteon. Is this a hardware problem or a software problem that can be solved. I get an error message about incompatible formats?
Thanks for any help.

I play my Philips DVD Recorder VR Mode discs daily on my Dell Dimension 4500. I have an LG4040B Burner and a Samsung CD burner/dvd rom combo.
Taking GoVideo's track record into consideration...I'd look at the GoVideo first for answers. -
Track record? What research I did on the VHS/Combo unit told me it was a decent piece of equipment. Am I wrong?
I figured it's my Liteon DVD-Rom 163 that is the culprit. -
Well...my dad bought a Cybercrap(Cyberhome) DVD Recorder that produces BARELY computer-workable DVD's. I would imagine that a DVD recorder in that price range is not going to have the compatibility (concerning the finished product DVD) that say a JVC, Philips or even Lite-on DVD recorder would have. I must admit though...I have always steered away from anything GoVideo even before they came out with a DVD Recorder...so I am a bit biased.
You may want to look at the DVD with something like DVDInfoPro or even DVDDecrypter to see if they recognise it as a DVD. -
Sounds like a UDF version problem.
How do you expect an answer if you don't tell your details?
What OS (probably XP, yes?).
Does Windows explorer even show files on the disc?
Do a search in this forum for VR and UDF and get back to us.I don't have a bad attitude...

Possibly could be your DELL Machine. Does it support other -RW media? My old DELL Inspiron would not play anything but -R media. Check the specs on your desktop ROM drive

Sorry guys. Thanks for your input.
I'm operating on Windows XP Home version. DVD ROM LTD 163.
At first my computer wouldn't even "see" the disc; I got a patch from microsoft and now at least the computer does show the files. It just won't play because it's an "incompatible format".
Now I feel like I got stuck buying the wrong type of eqipment; didn't know Go-video had bad rep and the price of some of the other competing combo machines were similar.
Any other suggestions welcome. -
I have a windows XP same as you and have VR Mode movies which I downloaded from my new JVC DVD Recorder and at first I couldn't even view the files but then discovered with Cyber Producer 2 installed I was able to view them and plus with that program you can convert them to other formats. I hope this helps

Where can I get Cyber Producer 2? Is this freeware or is there a trial version?
-
You can get Cyber Producer 2 from this forum or just click on the highlight. It is trialware
-
....still trying to find download of CyberProducer....I didn't have anything to highlight in my message and the forum search didn't help.

Oops sorry the website is http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/products/product_main.jsp?ProdId=54
and the device is Cyberlink Power Producer. I hope this helps it's only trialware though -
Yes, there's apparently a driver or something in Power Producer 2 that allows XP to "see" and download VR format DVD recordings. After I downloaded that trialware, not only did it work with Power Producer, but nearly all of my other video software could suddenly accept VR, too.
I never did actually buy the Power Producer software, though. The driver still works even though the trialware has expired. Since then, I got a DVD recorder (the JVC DR-M10SL) that can capture to DVD-RW in standard DVD-Video format. VR can be buggy and definitely is slower to deal with when downloading. -
I've never needed ANYTHING for XP (Pro) to work with or "see" VR mode discs. And VR mode is anything but buggy on the machines that the format was intended for.....DVD Recorders.Originally Posted by gshelley61

I've had numerous unresolvable issues with VR format files when editing and authoring. They were from a Panasonic E50, so maybe that was the problem, and not necessarily a reflection on the VR format itself. The discs would play fine in the recorder, and with PowerDVD... but I had problems with freeze-ups and stuttering when I tried to edit them.
