    I've donwloaded some files from a newsgroup that are split in the following format .avi.001, .avi.002... How do I recombine these?

    Many softwares open serially numbered files. Try Virtualdub. Open the first file and append all other files and save it as avi. Please note - you must use a Video Compression Codec (like Xvid, Divx) to compress the output video or the files may get really big.

    Are you sure that they're not RAR segments? I've seen them distributed that way across MIRC, etc.
