Problem with Ridata DVD-R

I just brought a pack of Ridata DVD-r, for some reason, all the dvds that I copied using it won't play on my dvd players, I went and exchange another pack and the problem is still there. My dvd players can play both DVD + and - R and when I burn the same disc with a DVD+R, it works perfectly, is this a problem with my burner or is this the Ridata dvd-r problem?

The dvd player can play Ridata DVD-r too, my friend burnt some dvd for me using Ridata and they work

I ahve the same problem using the Sonic DVD-R 4x blanks from Shop4Tech. I have burned/played back Ritek and ProDisc DVD-Rs with no problem. The Sonic blanks do work (sometimes) in the PC, though. Any ideas besides bad media? thanks.

That is what happening to me too, the dvd-r can play on both ps2 and computer and not my dvd player

what is the media ID for your Ridata DVD-r? The Sonic's are YiJhan .

Give one a burn @ 2x instead of 4x... see if it works... I use Ridata G04's exclusively in my re-badged BTC1004 and I always burn at 2x instead of 4. If I use 4x, the crappy burner will make discs that my brand new DVD player can't read (they read okay in computer DVD drives). Additionally, I have found that when burning DVD data, if I go more than 2x, some people have trouble reading the discs and/or I end up with corrupt data on the disc.

In my case it's all the drive's fault as it sucks but it's worth a shot to try and fix your troubles as well.

Agreed...burning at a slower speed can often cure a lot of compatibility and other playback problems. I, too, use Ritek GO4's almost exclusively, and stick to burning at 2x (I'm in no hurry.) They've been played back successfully on every player I've encountered.

Sounds like you have an authoring issue, not media. Have you checked your media for errors? Checked for compatibility in someone else's player?

I too have a lot more success burning 4x media at 2x...

To test this out, after I had a problem with a backup burnt at 4x stopping half way through the movie, I took the backup and created an ISO then burnt another copy on the same media at 2x and not a problem playing.

If you are using Nero, update it. There are UDF issues sometimes. This happened to me and an update fixed compatability. There was a thread all about this but I can't find it.

Once again, are you sure there isn't something wrong with the way you authored your disc? Have you tried these discs in another dvd player with negative results?

Doesn't sound like burn speed, media, or Nero updates for UDF compatibility issues.
