I have a high-end sound card that supports 24bit audio, at 96Khz. I use an ADS Instand DVD (1.0) for my capturing. The audio is routed through the sound card, and mixed real-time with the video to create DVD Compliant video. I have 3,4, & 5 Mbs quality options. With general capturing using the ADS Capture Wizard (the most stable app I can find for this device) I can only select up to 48Khz, and 16 bit. Is there any application that will allow me to capture in full 24Bit/96Khz?
I am also open to recording the audio seperately (with a basic wave recorder) and then mixing it with the video later. Do most DVD Authoring programs support this kind of audio? I have Ulead DVD Workshop 3 and TMPGEnc DVD Author.
Just to let you know - I am recording from an analog camcorder. The projects I want to use high-quality audio are all live recordings of bands that I've filmed. The extra audio clarity would defenetly come in handy.
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

btw - I've read that I need to author as PCM. Do any of the other formats support 24/96?

Hello,
akrako1-audio are all live recordings of bands that I've filmed
KevinDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
i've done alot of what you are talking about and that is one of the reasons I use Vegas 5.0
it lets you record 24/96 audio, unlike some apps that record in 16/48 and resample up.
vegas 5 also comes with a video capture function. i use that for the footage (thru canopus advc-100) and if i want 24/96 sound i record the audio separate with my Layla 24 and mux them later.
i've also found that the audio recording capabilities of most analog cameras suck. you can re record it in 24/96 but the dynamics of the original recordig would not, in my opinion, be worth it. 16/48 would be plenty good for that and then you won't have to crunch it down for authoring
i would be curious to know what camera and sound card you are using -
First of all, yes, these recordings are approved by the bands....
For my sound card, I'm using a M-Audio Delta 44. This is mainly a multitracking card (4 analog ins and 4 outs), but it supports 24/96.
My video camera is a Cannon ES50 8MM analog camcorder. Any ideas if the audio is worth the high sampling quality? -
also, do you know if Vegas has wide support for various capture devices? The ADS Instant DVD is USB based, and I haven't found much that supports it.

as far as i know vegas will support ADS Instant DVD. if it supports dazzle equipment it should support ADS but its not on their hardware page so just get the demo and try it.
the info i found on the ES50 is that the internal mic records sound between 50 Hz and 10 Khz
so your dynamic range is a little less than cd quality. don't bother with 24/96.
i would just hook up the camera to the ADS with some high quality RCA cables and settle for what you get. -
Thanks for the info! I'll have to check out Vegas. For now, I'll just use the default audio settings. At least I can record at 44Khz, so it's not too bad.
