typing effects

I am looking to add some effects to my movie, The only way I can describe what I am looking for is they used it on the Movie The hunt for red october. In the begining across the screen the letters would apear as if being typed out and making a beeping type sound. They said like location and time. If anyone know what I am talking about and knows how to do this Please tell me how. Thanks so much
