  1. Okay, I'm totally stoked 'cause this is my first time going from AVI to DVD!! woo-hoo

So here's what happened. I followed a guide that had TMPGenc do all the encoding, and then IFOEdit to make that output into DVD burnable form (multiplex?) (incorrect terminology I'm sure, sry, still learning).

So here's my problem: On the computer the output looks great! When I put the DVD into my DVD player, on the lower half of the screen is a solid green bar. On the top half the video is there but it looks interlaced(??) [it looks like there are lines missing/fuzzish... don't know exactly how to describe it. There are elements of the movie there obviously]

Does anyone know what went wrong?

    Thanks!

    Hello,
What was the file type that came from tmpgenc? If it was mpeg just use a dvd authoring program to burn it. I don't have experience with ifoedit so I don't know if that was where you made any mistakes (if any).

If you still have the file from tmpgenc I'd use that and try again. Practice doesn't make perfect but without it you'll be lost.

Good luck, stick to it and you'll find something that will work.

  3. It ended up being like an mp2 and mXX, I forget, but I was told to use the IFOEdit to convert those files into the whold VIDEO_TS shtuff so I could have Nero burn it.

I don't think it's the output files, or shtuff, I'm thinking maybe it's a setting in TMPGenc or maybe a bad Codec or something? I'm using KOELI's XViD codec...

Any thoughts or help would be muchly appreciated.

    Hello,
I believe it would have been .mp2 (audio) and .m2v (mpeg 2 video). If so those two files can be muxed (mixed) into a .mpg file that can be read by a dvd authoring program that would be easier than ifoedit.

The video_ts "stuff" is where the .vob files go that make up a dvd.

  5. Yoda - Yes, those are the two files. Do you have any suggestions for a program to MUX those two files instead of using IFOEdit?

(Maybe that is what caused my weird greeness... however it still doesn't make sense why the DVD worked on my PC and not on the player. I don't want to think that my DVD player sucks )

    Hello,
The computer has a TON of codecs installed so almost anything will play. DVD players are very strict (even ones that will play newer formats).

My suggestion would be to use TMPGENC and load the .mp2 and .m2v files into the project wizard (file, wizard). put the audio in the audio and the video in the video. Then from there (make sure you use the dvd ntsc (for US) option first. Follow the rest of the steps and you SHOULD get a merged .mpg file that will work in any dvd authoring program.
