Windows XP Demo version of TMPGENC 2.5 (a couple tried) I am planning to buy once I am over this!!!!
Worked a week previous, but not on Sunday, crashes the PC after about 12 minutes of MPEG2 created, back to black screen.
Any ideas please, I have reformatted and reinstalled everything.

I used to have this problem with some DivX files. I just transcoded the problematic files to HUFYUV and RAW PCM using Virtualdub, and the new AVI file was processed properly in TMPGEnc.

No error messages - AVI is off DV then edited in various Ulead packages (either free with PC or cheap) and it plays fine in Windows Media Player
All I get is the PC making disk and fan noises but black screen - I have to power the PC off to get anywhere. -
Could be a hardware problem. Encoding is CPU intensive and problems components will show up when you do it. Ram, CPU or power supply are typical.

Hard ware was my main concern - however last night I installed Windows Media Player version 9, and then did Windows Update a couple of times.
Before bed I set up the MPEG2 run and found it at 100% and complete this morning.
However I still need to reinstall some video card drivers as the analogue capture device is broken and I can't be bothered to connect my old SLF1UB to my TRV33 analogue in. -

Scandisk, defrag the machine. Download demo of Diskkeeper 8 workstation and defrag. Set the boot time consolidation option, defrag your pagefile, MFT and consolidate the directories.
This helps a lot with XP when you keep it cleaned out. If you are doing 2 pass VBR for TMPGEnc go to teh environment settings and set the temp sapce to at least 4.3Gb. It saves a ton of time encoding TMPGEnc VBR.

PS I've had good luck with Mainconept NTSC. Seems a touch blockier then TMPGEnc but a little faster. -
Prefetch - interesting
XP hides temporary files a lot better than 98 does
I'll have to check tonight from home
