  1. Currently I am using Smart Ripper, then DVD2AVI, then TMPGEnc. Is this the best way, or is there another way, that I can get better quality? The software doesn't have to be free. Gracias.

  2. I had best luck with the same combo. I made a few VCDs from DVDs. My copy of Spaceballs came out perfect. I could not even see the different from the DVD. I cut out the credits and used the highest bitrate I could and 720x480 res.onger movies haven't came out quite as well for me because I have to either use a lower bitrate or 3+ discs.

  3. For standard VCDs:

There are two main ways... DVD2AVI --> TMPGEnc or FlaskMPEG + plugin (e.g., Panasonic).

Quality is similar. It depends on whether your eyes think TMPGEnc or Panasonic is better.

The FlaskMPEG method is slower but tends to be foolproof. I reckon that it is a better method for subtitles.

The DVD2AVI method is faster and works better with TMPGEnc. It is not foolproof (e.g., read the forums --> some people have A/V sync issues, audio quality issues, soundtrack selection problems, frameserving problems, etc).

  4. Then what software do you use? I use Nero 5.5.5.1, and it gives me "not enough memory" error when I select option for Video CD. Can i use the option for data disk instead?

Win ME, 128 Mg RAM/5 GB free disk space/800Mhz P3/75-80% resource free.
Nero burns audio and data fine...just not video cd

    Thanks

  5. I personally don't use Nero. IMHO, from v5.0 --> 5.5 it turned into bloatware with a whole host of weird and varied problems.

I author my VCDs with VCDImager. I then burn the CUE/BIN images with CDRWin.

For people interested in authoring VCDs with VCDImager, an article series is in development here: http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd

On how to burn CUE/BIN images: http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd/burning_cuebin_images.html

You can also use VCDImager with a number GUIs including TSCV and VCDEasy.

:Vfapi codec reader to make a fake avi only when i want subs
:Vdub to make the subs and framsevere to
    :TMPGEnc
:Nero 5.5.4.0 to burn(never had a problem with it and i have 128 mgs Sdram i think u should go back to a previous version like 5.5.4.0 or 5.5.3.5)

it might have alot of steps but it gives outstanding results
