    thought nec 1300 is supposed to burn + and - however the nec 1300 refuses the emtech dvd-r.
    anyone same experience?

    yes, the Nec 1300 a is very good machine but rather picky on the quality of DVD+/-R you put in
    Emtec is not a reliable brand: apparently they simply buy eand resell discs from various sources: Taiwan, Europe etc... the results vary a lot from batch to batch

    I have it and no, it doesn't burn emtec -r dvd, but it burns very well emtec dvd +r, i tested many brands and this burner burns for me better +r media.

    You can use maxell -R if you want -r media.

    Ritek DVD-R G04's burn well too with this drive.

    While the NEC burners are ok as far as the electronics goes, the firmware is terrible. Take it back and get a Pioneer, Lite-On or Sony if you want to burn most of the media out there.
