Anyone have any "dead" not working NEC 1100A, 2500, 3520A, 3530A, 3540A or 3550A DVD burners BLACK in color. I need the faceplates. Anyone one know where to get faceplates for NEC DVD drives, Black in color? I am Willing to pay $ or trade for them. Thanks

Knock on wood, but they don't die. That's why I'd buy a stack of 3550a's (non-Opto) if I had the chance.

Yeah, they just stop reading burned discs. Out of 4 DVD burners I've used over the last ~5+ years, my 3550a was a piece of crap. All my Pioneer's were leaps over it (106, 109, now a 112). Nor could my NEC ever burn reliably (regardless of media used) at anything over 8x, my new 112 does 16x without issue.

  5. The 3550 is a piece of crap. Even at 8x, burns are fair at best. The 3500 is awsome. It burns with 100% reliability.

The 3520 I have burns very well and burns Verbatim 8x -R at 12x with excellent results. However, it suffers from the same affliction of not reading -R burned disks that many NEC drives do. I've seen innumerable posts on CDCreaks about this problem. The old Pioneer 107D that I have has never failed to read any disk tried; ditto the new Pioneer 111L that I have.
