  1. I want to stop everything I can before capturing video. What on this list absolutely, positively, has to be running for the computer to function? I have played with this thing and I'm afraid to mess with anything with the gear icon. I need an expert to help me kill a few more programs.

If it works, don't fix it.

  2. Try it; you can always reboot if you shut off something you need.

Read above link info to turn off windows "services"

Under the "processes" tab of task manager you may turn off "stop" programs such as antivirus.

A lot of programs (or i should say programmers) have taken it upon themselves to deem it necessary to start with windows. This show complete arrogrance on their part. For example , there is no need to have programs starting that tell you how much ink is left in the printer or when to register for updates. THESE CAN and SHOULD be stopped from loading.

MSCONFIG.exe can help with the above type.
