Hi Guys,
I am a newbiew. I just bought a Dell system that came with a
TEAC 8X DVD+RW DV-W58E drive.
I am not sure what kind of media to be used to burn successfully wit hthis drive.
I called up Shop4tech.com and spoke with a Technical support and was advised to use DVD+R 4x Optodisk media. I ordred a 1000 pack white printabvle and tried 5 disks and not even one was successfully. they used to fail while trying to write the disk.
I was using DVD Shrinki 3.1.7 and Nero burning ROM.
Please advise me on what kind media can be used
2. where csn i get best delas for DVD blank media.
3. what firmware/drive r version should i be using.
4.
Your experiences with this drive if any.
Thank you all for your information and advise in advance.
Any inputs are appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
mahesh

I also bought this drive about 3 months which came preinstalled on my Dell.
Unfortunately, there are many known problems with this drive and a large batch of them appear to be unable to burn above 2x even with good quality media. It seems a firmware update is needed however neither Dell nor Teac regard this problem to be of great importance and theres has been no update yet.
I have decided to instead send my drive back although I will be receiving the same model again it may be resolved.
With regards to what media to use, I've used ritek, memorex, sony and they all seem to burn fine, however rarely above 2x. I guess you should just try out a few brands. Take a look on the US dell forums for further info:

If the riteks don't work then it sounds most like there's something wrong with your drive.
I emailed Dell to arrange my exchange (although I'm still waiting for it to happen), if you go to the Dell website and click on technical support you should find a form to fill in to get technical help. After about 24hours you'll get a reply giving you ideas as to how to resolve the issue. If none of the solutions help then you can ask for a replacement, they might be able to give you a refund or a different drive (depends on where you are I guess, in the UK we can only get an exchange)
And on another note, mayeb you should check out some of the guides on this site to make sure you're burning correctly.
Hope this helps. -
My new dell with the TEAC drive came last week. I picked up some Memorex 4X DVD+R discs yesterday from OfficeMax; burned four using DVD Shrink and X Copy. No problems! Play fine in my old Panasonic DVD-RV30. Just ordered 25 more from provantage.com.
