I have an HP pc that has the dock for an HP Pocket Media Drive.

    1. Does anyone know what type of drive fits in this enclosure? (It's not the Personal media drive it's the Pocket Drive) Perhaps a laptop drive?

    2. Does anyone know how to open it up and replace the existing HDD?

Take a look here: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/2/187089/ShowThread.aspx They seem to have the methods there for opening them.

There appears to be more than one model. They may apparently have a 3.5 or 2.5" drive, PATA or SATA depending on the model.

But you may also be able to use just a standard USB external hard drive if you just need more space.

I already have 3 external drives. I was thinking that if I can find a cheap used pocket drive or even an empty case, then I could just add my own larger drive. My HP PC has a built in slot for the pocket drive. If I can't find a cheap pocket drive around, I'll probably just remove the pocket drive chassis from the case and add an internal drive there for more space.

Well my idea to buy a dead/bad pocket drive is now over. Contacted HP and they said that there is no way to replace the drive if it were to fail. Of course this could be them saying that so you'd buy a new one instead of replacing it cheaper.....Until I find more info about the possibilites of replacing a dead drive. I'm out of the pocket drive game.

Opening the HP Pocket media Drive is as simple as peeling back the hardened plastic label on the usb connection end and removing the two small phillip head screws hidden there. Once the screws are removed the drive carrier will slip out the front of the enclosure and the hard drive can be easily replaced.
