I'm considering buying a MCE remote in order to control media player classic (and my HTPC, when I can afford to build one). My question is: is the MCE remote compatible with media player classic? Would MPC have to be the active program/window for it to recognize the remote commands?

The basic functions like play/pause/stop/track skip/etc work with almost any application that could accept those functions otherwise (for example extended media keys on a keyboard). I use my MCE remote for controlling iTunes when Media Center isn't open. The application does have to be the active window though, or at least from what I've seen so not quite as versatile as the media keys on a keyboard which can be bound regardless of the active window.
