That's what I've concluded. For the past 2 years I've been trying to get a job with computers in PG county or charles county MD.
Every single computer related buisness has rejected me, and then i turn around and their f'ing staff dont know what they r talking bout.
ANyone have any advice on this, i need a job to visit my japanese friends this summer.

I feel you brother. Seems they want to hire a pretty face more than someone who actually knows what they are doing.
His name was MackemX
What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend? -
Yep, my company is in the process of buying 80 £1k servers because they needed some extra USB ports......................

I work for a photographic company at their main processing facility in Wellingborough.
Before that i worked for a theatre (also in wellingborough)
Haven't been a student since 1999! wonder what gave you that idea? -
I'll sell you 80 1-to-4 port USB 2.0 hubs for only £500 each. And, I'll ship it to England for free. (All in-country duties/ fees are your own.)Originally Posted by flaninacupboard

the IT department are just mental. plain and simple. you can get PCI USB cards for about £6 each.

Yeah, they're only about $10 or so, but with overhead, advertizing, staffing, utilities, burden and my profit margin, they get to £500 pretty fast!Originally Posted by flaninacupboardICBM target coordinates:

wait a minute.........
YOU WORK IN MY IT DEPARTMENT! DON'T YOU!!!

Hey! I bent over backwards to work up a better deal than what your IT department could manage! Talk about unappreciated!

actually it doesn't really bother me. should be leaving there in a fortnight, and the american arm of the company will probably pick up the bill, their stupid idea to switch from optical to digital!

Greg... Heres the thing.. Computer Skills are just Skills. Go sell yourself as somthing like a Financial Rep With good computer skills. Computer skills alone are not going to get you the job.
Big Government is Big Business.. just without a product and at twice the price... after all if the opposite of pro is con then wouldn’t the opposite of progress be congress? -

Well we've had to install three digital printers, about 30 workstations for image editing, racking for the 100,000 CD-Rs generated every year and an extra server for all the print batches. In the studio they shoot on a digital camera onto compact flash. when the customer "views" they plug the flash card into the server, it simultaneously copies to both cd-r andd to the servers hard drive. customer picks which pictures they want and the studio send up the cd-rs. they each generate 3 or four discs a day.
It's cost them a shedload for a product that's more expensive to produce, and doesn't look as good as optical work
And we've got to keep thousands of negatives in storage and keep two optical printers for another two years anway in case customers want to reprint orders.
but there you go.... -
That is actualy good advice. The trend right now is to outsource IT departments overseas and there is no garentee you won't be laid off. However, if you have another job like I do, the skills give you an advantage. Not only can I do my job, but I can fix other people's computers when they break (I get at least one request a day). A double value to the employer. So, when lay-offs come, are they going to let me go or the guy who gets freaked out if the printer doesn't work?Originally Posted by BobV"A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

How can I develop anouther skill i wonder, should i sell myself as a salesmen with excellent product knowledge, a sprint salesman with a sprint phone who knows computers?
i'm only 18 btw, i'm not looking for a carrer, just a part time to full time job.
but i'll think on that, maybe next time i apply, i'll portray myself as a guy who can work anywhere in the store. -
Hey, remember that you're talking about corporate mentality. Does the company pay you $50 more per year than the other guy? Then you're out and he's still there, and the company can't figure out why they have so much trouble finding good workers.Originally Posted by SolarjetmanA man without a woman is like a statue without pigeons.
