    Yeah! i have read it!
and i have tested all this:

If you have trouble open MPG/MPEG2/SVCD/DVD files
Install the PowerDVD 4+ demo and use TMPGEnc 2.57+ and you should be able to open MPEG2
or install the MPEG2 plugin for TMPGEnc or use this DVD2AVI method (note DVD2AVI do not convert the MPEG2 to AVI it only frameserves it to TMPGEnc)

im kind of stuck here! :/

  7. Two options:

    1) buy me a ticket to fly over there so I can look at your computer
    2) tell me what type of movie you are talking about, what version of TMPGENC you are using and what the hell you are actually trying to do.

    Ok!... here is the deal.

    I have a videocamera (Samsung Hi8).
when i have capture movies from the videocamera to my computer i use TMPGEnc-2.59.47.155 Plus to convert the mpg movie to SVCD.
But TMPGE does not want to open the movie. it say:Can not be open, or unsupported.

    the point!
i want to convert the movie to SVCD and fix some things.
but i cant even open the movie in TMPGE.

I thought that it was a codec that where missing. I have tried a lot of driften codecs but no one sems to work.

  9. I am glad I asked (and you answered) the question because I will be that EVERYONE that has replied so far thought you were talking about a avi/xvid/dvd conversion movie and not one that you have made yourself.

OK, now we can start looking at the problem. So, you record some video with your HI8 camera. How are you transferring the video into your computer? Are you using a capture card and software (if so, what kind-software and hardware). also, and probabably the larger question, what is the file extension and specs when it is on your computer.

I believe that an application like gspot (available in the downloads section) could tell you exactly what type of video you have. What I would ask is that you use gspot to I.D. your video, then post ALL of the results (a screenshot would be better) for me to take a look at.

If you ignore that request and want a go at it on your own, my only suggestion would be that you try to frameserve the video into TMPGENC. you will use an application called virtualdub (vdub for short). I would recommend reading a frameserving guide to complete the process. What will happen is that you will use vdub to open and save the file as an .avs file. While leaving vdub open, you will open tmpgenc and open the newly created file (it will be a VERY small file) and then frameserve the video and audio from vdub to tmpgenc to do the conversion. That should work.

  11. Macleod...I have always framserved Virtual Dub to TMPGEnc using a .vdr extension. Are you saying he should save the avi file to an .avs extension and then framserve with THAT avs file? Is there any benefit to doing it that way as opposed to the .vdr way? Just curious as I have never done it that way before.
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space.

i like to add some things:

I had a problem before, my movies came out much brighter then they should have been from TMPGEnc. (but i worked to open then)

So i (reinstalled) windows, and now i cant even open them.

  15. So the files from your capture software are mpeg-2 already. Therefore I have to ask why you want to re-encode them with TmpGenc, why not just capture them with the relevant settings for your final media type.

If you really insist on opening these files in TmpGenc (and it can be tricky to persuade it to open mpeg-2 files), have you actuall tried the DVD2AVI method described Here

    reread bugsters post again.

(Note! DVD2AVI does not convert the MPEG2/SVCD to an AVI, it is just decoding the MPEG2/SVCD so you can open it in TMPGEnc.)

And please wait a few days before you bump a topic.
And please choose a better subject next time you post.
