want to create a boxset plz

I have a few episodes of a TV show on my HD and wish to burn them on DVD , is there software I could use to create a type of boxset , if so could you give an example of what software I might try , free if possible.

Something like one would see on most boxsets , so basically when I load the disc I have a menu of episodes to choose from.

It sounds like what you want to do is author your own DVDs, including making DVD menus. I have to say I have not myself used any software that worked well enough that I could recommend it, but one that I will probably try when my life gets less busy is DVDStyler, which gets some pretty good recommendations and seems to have the features you and I are both looking for.

This is what I use:

Avisynth to put the video files in DVD conformant format (start with FitCD).

Use AVSp to tweak the AVS files.

Then HCEnc to make MPEG2 video
Aften to make AC3 audio
GfD to take the MPEG2 and AC3 and author a DVD fileset with menu.
Imgburn to burn to DVD.

This all took me a few months to learn.
But now I can do it in a few minutes (my time, takes hours of PC time).

All these programs are free and have extensive online help.

Most likely you are talking about heavily compressed and resized downloaded files that, once put back to DVD specs, will look like garbage.....just load them into something like DVDFlick and experiment. The size(megabytes) of these files as they are right now on your HD mean absolutely nothing when it comes to putting them to a DVD. They will increase in size drastically leaving you with room enough for maybe two of these episodes.

hech54 is correct, if the video is downloaded SD (Standard Definition) video, it will look worse when converted to DVD. But if the episodes are HD ( hi-definition) material you can actually create DVD with better quality than you find in on the shelf of your local retailer.

When television Heroes started airing in HD I use to do this a , I would got to www.tvdb.com to download art work to use for menus, go to subscene to get subtitles in languages i needed and us the theme music from the show as music the for the menus. But the quality of the DVD was so much lower than the hd video, i stated instead creating BD5 or DB9 disk with 3 or 6 episodes respectively per disk, so in this way i was able to keep the coveted HD quality while transferring my videos to a more portable format. (BD5 and BD9 do not play on all play using the AVCHD patcher can increase the possibility for comparability.)

If BD5 or BD9 intrest you take a look at multiavchd or Avchdcoder. But if your more interested in DVD AlanHK has made superb suggestions. The only thing i would add is that if you want some really kick but menus, and add advance features to your disk buy DVDlab for $99 it can't be beat, it gives you some capabilities that are not possible in freeware or would be very tedious and time consuming otherwise. Also if the source is stereo you can create some very convincing 5.1 audio with goldwave.
