  1. Hi,

I'm quite new to DVD burning. I used DVD Shrink a couple of times with perfect results.

Now, I wanted to backup disk 1 of Bruce Springsteen "Live in Barcelona", and I get this message "The selected video cannot be compressed." (see ) Also, the disk has two audio streams, on LPCM 2-channels and one AC3 5.1-channels, but both are mentionned with a size of 0.

Total size is 6,720 Mb. The second disk is lest that 4,000 Mb, and did backup as a charm...

Is this a special format that can't be compressed?

    Any advise will be welcome!

  2. What sort of ripper are you using? I ask because I experienced a similar problem with Nero Recode on Buena Vista Social Club, and it went away I installed AnyDVD (I suspected maybe Macrovision encoding?).

Take it for what it's worth, but you can always try it for free (Trialware).

What happens if you try a re-author? I realize you will lose your menus, but it might let you compress.

LPCM audio takes up a lot of space. Usually those files are huge. So I would say that you would have to remove the LPCM audio and just go with the 5.1. With the 2 audio tracks there is probably not enough space left for adequate compression of the video.

  6. You may want to try ripping the DVD to your hard drive first (use DVD Decrypter), then try recompressing it with DVD Shrink (you will have to do "Open Files" instead of "Open Disk").

  7. try the reauthor and set the compression on each stream individually, and remove any unwanted streams.

  8. Hi folks! Thanks for your replies!

I'll try summarize my answers to all your questions:

    - AnyDVD is installed
    - I tried ripping first with DVD Decrypter and then open the files in DVD Shrink, but there is no difference
    - Using Reauthor mode gives the same problem
    - I would like to use only one sound stream, but as you can see from the picture, both have a 0 length ??? So removing the check box for bone of them doesn't change anything.

Seems as this DVD uses a rather specific format where video and audio are kind of merged in some inextracable way?

  9. Oh, yes, BTW:

In reauthor mode, I can get rid of the menus etc..., but this is not enough to free up space, as it seems DVDShrink will not compress the main movie anyway...

  10. You could change the vob files to mpeg files and then re-autor the DVD using TMPEGDVDAuthor or like programs.

  11. i see that the version of dvdshrink is the latest, have you tried using a customized compression setting? It may let you compress it, even though it says it can't.

  12. Interesting ! ! !

I have the same problem with Shania Twain. No amount of fiddeling seems to help. From shrink 1.03 to 3.1. No dice.

Try a different compression program. DVD2ONE is capable of higher compression rate,CloneDVD is availableas a 30 day try out.

I backed up my copy of Bruce's Live in Barcelona using dvdshrink 2.3. I removed the lpcm audio track and manually selected the compression size. I only had to do that to one disc. Both discs came out great. Just one note, make sure your dvd player is not set on lpcm audio.
