  1. Please I need help with this problem. I cannot get audio to sync correctly. It is happening in the demux/mux of SVCD2DVD. I get this error:

    WARN: packet length beyond buffer (pos = 18 + size = 2306 > buflen = 452) -- stream may be truncated or packet length > 2324 bytes!

++ WARN: bad packet at packet #451 (stream byte offset 1048124) -- remaining 452 bytes of stream will be ignored

Is their a setting or option in SVCD2DVD that I can use? I note you can manually resync audio if it is behind or ahead of the video. Does the info above give any indication as to how to work out what to actually input in the audio sync box???

Thanx. Your help will be more then valuable

Can you give details of the structure of your DVD? VTS's SVCD or VCD etc.

  4. Sure can, I am putting vcd onto dvd, 9 episodes. Have tried it with just one episode but still the same.

Each one of the nine gives the same message in the log as posted above.

    Hope you can help

  5. The first tip i can give you: Getting vcd on dvd is harder then learning to walk. So take you time and try it over and over again.

Did you read the sticky about video/audio sync?

  6. Hi yf2001usa, thanx for the tips. But I have been doing vcd to dvd now for a couple of years and it is only since i upgraded to svcd2dvd 1.5 final that the trouble has started.

I had no trouble with previous releases and was more then happy with the quality of the video and audio. But had nothing but trouble since the upgrade to the final version.

I have looked at the audio sync link you refer to and found again with conjunction with svcd2dvd the problem is the same (in that guide an older version of svcd2dvd is used).

By not using svcd2dvd at all but only using tmpg and tmpg dvd author i now find i have pefect vcd to dvd everytime.

It is obvious the problem is where svcd2dvd demultiplexis and then multiplexis the files as the files are fine before this having checked the original files and then the _dvd files it produces, the fault is always with the _dvd files.

It is a shame i really rate svcd2dvd but it is a more then obvious problem as I have seen countless posts and comments all with the same problem.

At least I am sorted now. Anyone experiencing the same problem please email me and i will let you know how I got around it.

  7. I have bad sync problems with putting vcds on dvd. Some work, others do not (and there are more that dont work ).
First, I only used Tmpegenc DVDAuthor. The first DVD worked, all others were out of sync. Then I used Tmpegenc to convert VCD to VCD (just to be sure). Directly after converting they were out of sync. Then I tried the "Surefire" way, same result.
I narrowed the problem to the conversion of audio from 44.1hz to 48hz.
    Every help is greatly appreciated.

  9. Im having the same audio sync problem with a vcd that is broken into 4 parts. What I did was save the bins to my hard drive and then inputted them into svcdtodvd. I tried this twice and twice the audio sync problems. No problems so far with svcd to dvd conversions....but this vcd...I have had no luck with.

  11. Having worked very closely now with Chrissyboy over the past few days I can confidently announce that the problem with the sync issues has at last been resolved.

As originally suspected, the problem lay with the source material and not svcd2dvd. Having looked at files that are known to have sync problems, and with files that are ok the problem was clearly identified.

After banging heads together and isolating this, Chrissyboy has pulled all the stops out, and if you go over to: http://www.svcd2dvd.com/Guides/AVSync/default.aspx
and follow what is on that page you will get correctly finished files using svcd2dvd. Some third part software may be needed to re-encode certain files identified by virtualdub-mpeg2 as being out of sync.

I was only to pleased to write the (what has affectionately been called now) 'CG Method' and am pleased that this has worked for you in the time between sorting out the problem.

So at last we can all go back to using SVCD2DVD to create our dvd's. Follow the new guide there and use this before you go to produce your _DVD files, and you should not have any trouble or wasted time. I have tested this method out and it works.

  12. Hello...Im trying the new method listed to check the audio sync problem with my vcd mpgs. Just asking...when you have to run the mpg through tmpgenc do you lose any video quality? Thanks vinnyv07

  13. Just wanted to add a little something, I tried converting a 4 disc vcd (no names mentioned my precious...) using svcd2dvd and got avsynch problems and as identified earlier, it occurs when the mpg files are remuxed. I did the same thing with the same source mpg files using tmpgenc dvd author and no avsynch issues at all.

Does tmpgenc dvd author work in a different way? i.e does it not demux/remux the source mpgs?.

  14. Hello. I had asked before if putting a mpg through Tmpgenc would make the picture any worse than the original. I too tried converting a 4 vcd movie...no names precious... and at first the first cd and the third cd were out of sync. Then I used the new method of running through Vir Dub and indeend a nice little program to check if your vcd is out of sync. So I had the bin files saved to my hard drive and svcd2dvd converted them into Mpegs for me. Then I dragged the Mpgs to Vir Dub and then took the ones out of sync and used Tmpgenc to fix that and then ran the four mpgs through svcd2dvd. i just checked it and ....wow....four vcd's on the dvd and they are all in sync. Great. Thankyou to Chrissyboy and C Gunn....I really couldnt have done it with out you smart people. Thanks.

  15. reencoding video will always give quality loss.. With good settings you might not even see it but with bad settings you'll see it right away

  16. Little bit the same problem here on this side.

However, the, by SVCD2DVD created _DVD files are IN sync and the final result on the DVD is out of sync.

    So to be clear:

    AVI - in sync
converted to VCD - in sync
converted to _DVD - in sync
result on DVD - out of sync

this out of sync starts right in the beginning. It's not that the out of sync becomes more and more out of sync the longer you play the movie. I loaded the _DVD files into VirtualDub to check if they were indeed in sync. No problem detected there (and also not in mediaplayer)

so... somewhere... from _DVD to DVD it goes wrong.

here's my log file. 2 of the 3 files gave a problem. Both are previously converted from AVI to VCD using Mainconcept. One was allready converted to _DVD on a previous run (but after detecting the problem i decided to try again) and one was converted to _DVD on this run. The BIN file that was extracted worked fine.

    Greetings

I have a question for CGunn regarding A/V Sync.

I read through your guide, and found it informative - I certainly learned something I didn't know before. However, I have to question if there are any ways around doing full re-encodes.

I mean, for example, did you know that Womble MPEG-VCR has a "MPEG Video GOP Fixer" that will fix GOP time code and audio PTS errors. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly what it does, so I can't say if it will be helpful here, but I'd love your opinion on it.

In theory, it seems that a program could look at the PTS values, and tell when a frame was dropped, and then insert duplicate frames to "fill in the holes" without doing any re-encoding. This would fix the streams, and then they could be demuxed and remuxed without leading to problems.

I would also like to point to the case where there is only one batch of skipped frames, say toward the end of the mpg. Then there is really no need to re-encode the bulk of the mpg. Re-encoding is so time-consuming and always leads to reduced quality, so aren't there other ways to avoid full re-encodes?
