I've got an ATI AIW 9600 pro and the onboard sound card (Realtek I believe) that comes with the NForce2 chipset. When I watch live TV everything looks and sounds great, but when I watch the recordings of the same show or movie it sounds very "tinty" (if that's a word) or like there is too much treble. Does anyone know of any settings I could change to improve this problem? I don't see any treble and bass settings in my recording or audio section of the ATI Multimedia Center.
I downloaded Beyond TV to see if it was a problem with the MMC or a sound card or settings problem and the sound was perfect in Beyond TV. I'm thinking it is something with the recording audio in the MMC, but I haven't been able to find anything. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Maybe record volume is too high? Maybe what your hearing is clipping?
Are you capturing at 44.1kHz? Is your source 44.1kHz?
Need more info. -
I'm capturing at the default DVD settings in MMC. I believe that is 48Khz. Is it necessary to record at 48Khz or is 44.1 OK?
By source, do you mean the playback settings in my Live TV?
I'm not sure if this matters, but I thought I'd throw it out there also. My sound card is connected to my video card via a cd audio cable. I assumed that wasn't the problem since my sound is perfect in normal Live TV mode.
I thought about the recording volume, but I don't see a setting for that. I know WinDVR has a recording level setting, but I don't see such a setting in MMC.
Let me know if you need anymore info and thanks a lot for the help.

I'm in NTSC land, and although i never checked, i always assumed that TV broadcasts were 44.1kHz. I have always captured TV at 44.1kHz, and i've never had problems. If your source is similar maybe your capturing across sample rates.
At what rate did BeyondTV capture to?
Try a test capture at 44.1kHz, it might address both issues. -
OK. What does this mean if anything? If I use Beyond TV to do my recording, the sound is perfect (the video sucks, but that isnt my concern right now). If I put those exact same settings into MMC the sound sucks. By settings, I mean bit rates, frequencies, etc. I think I can rule out everything as being the problem except MMC. For some reason MMC just sounds horrible when I replay the recordings.
Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages of constant bit rate vs. variable bit rate? Which one should I use?

I fixed this by adding a Sound Blaster Audigy to my Media Center and disabling my onboard NForce2 sound card. My conclusion is that the AIW doesn't like the NForce2 sound.
