  1. I have a 16x DVD-Rom and i usually copy the dvd on to my comp in about 25-30 minutues...is this about right. Well at least it is better than yesterday before i reinstalled my IDE Channels cause it was taking 1 hour 15mins - 1 hour 45 mins

any help will be highly appreciated

also i have a lg 4040b and i have only been able to burn at 2x i think i updated to the newest firmware but i still have this problem... i figure that my blank dvds are just actually 2x POS's. is anyone still having the burning speed problem with the 4040b after the updated firmware

    thnx

  2. With DVDs, I never rip/burn above 4x. Basically because Ive never had an error in doing so.

Sometimes it depends on the DVD being ripped, but generally it takes me 8-14 minutes to rip a 2 layer DVD.

Sounds like you didn't have DMA enabled when it was taking over an hour. Still might not be enabled if it's taking 25-30 minutes.

16x is the maximum possible speed your drive is capable of ripping at when it gets to the very outside of a disc given perfect conditions in a vacuum

In reality, no DVD-ROM can rip at anywhere near this throughout the whole disc consistently with a variety of DVDs. I have not heard of the brand of your DVD-ROM so I don't know whether they're any good or not, but it might help to try a different DVD-ROM. I have a LiteOn and a Pioneer and they both are pretty good. I think it would be fair to say that you should average between 4x and 8x consistently. This translates roughly into between 10 and 20 minutes but there are other factors like the intensity of encryption that can slow your ripping speeds down.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  8. i think mine is like a branch of liteon but im not really sure i got it about a year ago and it was an average price like somewhere from 70-90 dollars so given that it might be liteon made does anyone have any suggestions on how to find the firmware for it

  9. If it is a Lite-on, then this might be what you're after:
