yeah thats right, i used my philips dvdr70 recorder to record 3 vcds onto 1 dvd. i then went to ripp the created dvd to my hdd and found that the files i had just ripped off the said dvd were 8.4 gig in size. here is the proof.

the thing is, i now cannot burn that dvd+rw to a 4.7 gig dvd+r.
the questions i have are how and why?
i realise this could also be posted in the dvd to dvd section but since it was recorded on the dvd70 recorder i thought i would post it here first and if i got little response then i would post it in dvd to dvdr.
anybody had experience of this and why it occurs?

  2. what process did you use to rip the dvd to your hard drive? are you sure the dvd-rw was burned correctly in the philips? have you watched the whole thing without errors?

i used dvddecryptor 1st in file mode to rip then when i couldnt burn the video folder in nero i tried ripping with decryptor again but in iso mode and that created a read error at about 60 per cent into the ripping process so it couldnt ripp it. i was wondering, since the first two films i recorded on the disc were recorded in 6 hour mode, then the last film i put on the disc was in 2 hour mode, i wonder if that is waht is causing the problem. but even so i cant see how i fit 8 gig on a 4.7 gig disc.
the dvd+rw disc plays all the way through on my dvd player and on my dvd burner.

  4. I have seem's thing like this it's the PC readding the file size wrong. It might be your PC or DVD drive that did some thing out of wack. I once had a hard drive that was 7 1/2 gig I broke the drive down to three drive of 2 gig's and the last drive was 1 1/2 but for some reason ever time I put in my VIPER 550 TNT card another 2gig showed up. I know that I do not have two more gig's but window's is telling me but when I change back to my ATI AIW 8meg card the two gig partion went away..

When I use DVD2DVD-R and my C drive if I cancel the program there file that it made I could not see but it took up my hole drive with dummy file
s or some thing. Had to format the drive.

  5. I am surprised that DVD Decrypter gave a read error in ISO mode. I have noticed that when I record a DVD partly in SP mode, and partly in EP mode, Windows shows 8 meg of files on the DVD. But just clicking on properties for the disk shows the correct 4.7 gig. Play the .vob files and you will see that the disk contents are being listed twice - it has something to do with multiple titles recorded at different rates. DVD Decrypter has been able to read and write these disks in ISO mode for me with few problems. I did a read failure with one DVD+RW disk, but at 98% of the disk. I assumed it was media failure. I'm still experimenting with this but I think DVD decrypter should work - try another disk and see.

  6. My first discovery of really how information a DVD can hold blew me away... (at one point, I honestly thought they were just like regular CD's). Ohh I remember the feeling

ok, what i will do is try using nero to copy the dvd tonight when i get home from work. i will try on the fly 1st then if that dont work in will try nero by ripping to a temp file. if all else fails i will just delte the last film off the dvd+rw i recorded it onto and re-record it using the the same 6 hour mode as the other 2 films on the disc.
    thanks for your replies.

  8. Rip the VOB files only, create new navigation files with IFO Edit, get VTS sectors, and youre good to burn
