Hi all,
Just curious… I’ve been rendering my mpg-2s to “Good” quality in Vegas with happy results thus far. However, my last project contained all analogue source, much with low lighting, so I decided to re-encode the project using the “Best” setting – and to my eye there is a slight improvement in sharpness and color quality. The “Best” render took almost twice as long to encode, as expected. But to my surprise, each mpg-2 (Good/Best) was the exact same size right down to the last kb!
Could someone please help me understand why this is? I expected much larger file sizes… Now I'm thinking that maybe I should start rendering to "best" more often when quality is an issue, if filie sizes are not increased???
Thank you very much.
Paul

Actually, there should be no visible difference in the render unless you resized or used stills in the project. This setting has to do with scaling - bicubic vs. bilinear. That's the only difference.

Jester700,
Your referred link:

is most interesting! Thank you.
From above link:
>>Quality: Best
>>Scaling: bi-cubic/integration
>>Bi-Cubic/Integration - Best image resizing algorithm available in Vegas. Quality differences will be most >>noticeable when using very large stills or stretching small sources.
Regarding “stretched small sources”, I did have a few shortl clips which were slowed (streched on the timeline) via velocity envelope which quadrupled + the source in terms of actual playback time. Would this explanation fall under stretching small sources? I ask because, as I said before, there were noticeable – albeit slight (at least to my wife and I) differences in quality after the “Best” re-render.
Thanks again! And thanks for the Forum link!
