I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this issue with processessing DivX video in TDA3. Note that I'm referring here, not to standard DVD authoring, but the DivX Authoring capability of this software.

I just converted two short mpeg files into DivX, using DivX Converter at the default Home Theater settings. Loading one of the converted (presumably now fully compliant DivX avi) files into TDA3, I see the SR (smart rendering) icon. BUT, as soon as I load the next one in, the SR icon on both changes to FR (full rendering).

Using smart rendering with the single track loaded, I can render the single track in 3 minutes or so. But load in two tracks, even if they are both fully compliant DivX avi files, and rendering takes about an hour. (One of the tracks was a 35MB DivX avi, the other 25MB.)

Smart rendering here seems not so smart.

I have reported this to TMPEnc support, they have duplicated it, and say they are looking into it.

    Anyone else have this problem?

  2. I see you point and don't have a good answer yet, but why are you not letting TDA3 do the conversion for you to begin with instead of using another app?

Thanks for the response. I, in turn, see your point. Let me explain:

The process I describe above (converting two short mpegs with DivX Converter, etc.) was a test. The reason I did this test is to confirm a problem I have noticed with a real project I'm working on.

I am using MemoriesOnTV Pro 3 to create a photo slide show and export it as a HD (1280x720) DivX avi. So the video in question is one I am creating, and there is no point in suffering the quality lost of creating it in some other format and then having TDA3 do a second conversion to DivX. All the more, having created a compliant DviX file, I don't want TDA3 to re-encode it (using a lengthy "full rendering"), which it seems to insist on doing if there is more than one track.

Hence my desire for TDA3's smart rendering to, if I may say so, work properly.

Why don't you simply use DivXMediaBuilder?

Thats an idea. Thanks, I'll check it out.

I would, however, be pleased to confirm that this is a TDA3 bug, and perhaps encourage the folks at TMPG to fix it.

    Cheers!

  6. I don't think that is a bug for TDA 3. That's how it works for Divx smart rendering, I think.

I did the divx authoring with divx file. the full rendering for one movies is from 2-3 hours. The smart rendering still take 1-1.5 hours.

If you want to do the smart rendering for all of your files then put each one in a independent track. If a track have more than one file, even they both are smart rendering compliant, TDA 3 still use the full rendering for them.

  7. DMB is very much a work in progress and the user interface is a little less than intuitive. RE hidef divx .. there is nothing (in CE land) that will play hidef divx using Divx ultra features iAFAIK??
I dont understand with TDA3 ? surely if you have a compliant file and just use it to add a menu and chapter points it wont take hours to re=render the whole project??
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.

In my experience, TDA 3 (I'm not talking about DivX Author) will smart render a single already compliant 200MB DivX file in a few minutes. If you add another compliant DivX file in the same track, the Smart Rendering (SR) indicator on both immediately changes to FR (Full Rendering) and it takes more than 1 hour.

Following Xnici's suggestion (for which, thanks), I have just tried the above mentioned two DivX compliant files as two separate tracks, and Smart Rendered them both, with menu, in 2.5 minutes. (One was 200MB, the other 250MB.)

So, in my view there is a bug in TDA 3 in that it cannot smart render two files in the same track, but there is a work-around in that you *can* smart render those two files as separate tracks. I don't know how DivX Author works, since I don't have it.

    Cheers!
