  1. I have a movie that i'm trying to back up... I did the dvd2one thing, and downsized it without menus. When i play it on my computer using the ATI DVD player it works fine. but when i play it on my standalone (philips dvd-711 i believe..) it plays black and white, and like the picture is dropped down 1/3 of the way... did i burn it wrong? Any suggestions as to why it doesn't play properly?

  2. It sounds like you have an encoding problem in that you're trying to play an NTSC movie on a PAL TV that won't handle NTSC (or the revese). The symptoms are much the same as what you are experiencing.

Computers don't care which type of DVD it is as they all handle both but TV sets do care altough most modern PAL TV's will also accept NTSC but very few NTSC sets will take PAL encoding.

  4. Converting from PAL to NTSC is a long process so first check that I'm right. Take a look at the original DVD and see if it *is* PAL encoded or states Region 2 or one of the other PAL regions.

If it does there is various guides on this site that will walk you through the process of conversion. Good luck!
