Nobody? Same thing can happen to a VHS player so anyone with the same experience with a VHS let me know.
I have a refurbished Sony SL-2400 BetaMax player. It plays awesome pictures. I finally decided to start transferring my home videos on Beta tapes. The first tape played great until 3/4 the way through. Then the picture started to stretch from the left side and had a purple/blue tint to it. The picture would scroll sometimes like the old tv's that you had to adjust the vertical scroll button.
I cleaned the heads manually and it worked until the machine had been on a while. It seems to stop if I shut it off and try again later. Is this a capacitor or something going bad once it heats up??

The problem is with the output circuit on the vcr. I contacted them and he offered me another model for $495 with my two defective units as trade. I got the same model he was offering off eBay for $135 shipped. Once I let him know I got another model and offered him my used ones he has never replied since.
Not the best service....just wants my money.

I purchased a unit on eBay and it was damaged by UPS!! It was a fully refurbished unit. The little section of the circuit board that powers on the vcr and the eject button was broke in two!! Luckily this is old school hardware and only 1 layer. Well two, top and bottom.
I repaired teh circuit board and practiced up on my soldering and its back up and working again.
The videos are crystal clear after 28 years and I am editing them as we speak.
Thanks everyone and have a GREAT Thanksgiving.
