  1. OK.
I have 650 pIII, 512 SDRAM with an ATI All in Wonder Pro 128 4x AGP.
    Windows XP Professional.

After a fresh format/reinstall, I installed divx3. Any Divx3 movie plays fine with no skipping or anything, Then I installed Divx5, and divx3 movies start to skip, the sound gets off, and things go crappy.
Divx5 (actually 5.11) when installed itself is also having trouble playing divx5 movies, and XViD is also not working, as the movies are choppy.

DVDs play fine on it, skip free.
I have up to date drivers for my All in Wonder card.
I've tried installing FFDShow, and that seems to make things worse.

This computer used to play all of these movies just fine, but have not used it in a little while (few months).

    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks if you do.

Yep. Get the fourcc changer. Which codec to use to decode a given AVI is determined by it's 4cc header. Too bad there's no real standard for it, I mean there is but most people ignore it. You shouldn't have installed the DivX 3 codec :P

Most AVI's will play great with a header of divx/divx .

  3. Something I forgot to say before: I only installed divx3 because divx5 wasn't working (skipping, like I mentioned before). And if divx5 won't work, will changing xvid to divx not work? Is my system a piece of crap?

    Thanks again.

  5. Ok, So i have it working fine again, except 1 movie i have, has ac3 and xvid. In Gspot, it says that i don't have AC3 installed, even though I installed the latest version. The movie, then plays slow, causing audio and video to un-sync.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    thanks for any help!
