I have a DivX3 video file and want to convert it to DivX6 without any loss in quality.

What is the best way to convert the file?

    without any loss in quality
    Can't be done.
But a realtively easy (and not so lossy) way is to use AutoGK or AviReComp to reencode.

Easy enough to convert. You could use VirtualDub Mod (or VD). You may need the Divx3 codec to open it. But the output file will likely be much bigger. You can't do much of any conversion with no loss in quality, you can only minimize the loss. Try a short representative clip and check the output quality. Better quality=higher bitrate=bigger filesize.

You will also need the Divx6 codec installed. Or use the freeware Xvid codec. With Xvid you can use a Quantizer setting of 2 and you should have fairly close quality.

I prefer VD Mod myself. Lots of guides available to the bottom of the VD toolpages. Use full video processing and the select your output codec. If the audio is OK, it will just add it to the encoded file.

Actually it can be done. There is an ffmpeg build which can convert DivX3 to ISO MPEG-4 without re-encoding. Then all you need to do is set the FourCC to DX50.
